The Bobcats played well for their first tournament of the year, as they travelled to Auxvasse and Montgomery City last week for the annual Montgomery County tournament.

Bowling Green’s boys ultimately placed third after games against Montgomery County, Louisiana, and North Callaway.

North Callaway

The Bobcats started their run at the Montgomery County tourney on a low note, falling to North Callaway in their first game last Wednesday by a single run, 3-2.

Bowling Green’s CB’s, Corey Brown and Cory Buchanan, were the leaders at the plate Wednesday afternoon. Buchanan was on top with two hits and two RBIs. Buchanan and Brown both had three QABs.

Alex Roy made three appearances at the plate, getting one hit.

Buchanan pitched all six innings for the ‘Cats. He threw 14 first-pitch strikes and four strikeouts.

At the beginning of Bowling Green’s bout against rival Louisiana, it seemed as though there would be a clear winner. Although the Bobcats were able to emerge victorious, the fifth inning allowed the Bulldogs to close the gap on Bowling Green’s lead, leaving the Bobcats with a single run victory, 5-4.

The Bobcats started the game with a heavy 3-1 lead over Louisiana, and came back in the third to advance their lead 5-1. In the fifth, the Bobcats allowed three runs for Louisiana.

Darren Feldewerth was the only Bobcat with significant success at the plate, however, earning four RBIs and chalking up three QABs.

David Goddard and Cory Buchanan both scored two runs. Corey Brown scored one.

Although the Bobcats didn’t have a seemingly strong came from the plate, their work out on the diamond is what sealed the deal Wednesday. With only eight hits compared to Louisiana’s 13, the Bobcats had to play hard on base.

Austin Quarles racked up three stolen bases.

Montgomery County

After the Bobcats’ strong, five-run second inning, the Montgomery County boys stood little chance at victory Saturday in the battle for third place. The Bobcats won the game 8-1.

Cory Buchanan, who pitched all seven innings Saturday, was the game’s winning pitcher, throwing 20 first-pitch strikes and six strikeouts. Buchanan got two hits from the plate.

Darren Feldewerth led the Bobcats from the plate, getting three hits and earning two RBIs.

David Goddard was also on the leaderboard Saturday, having earned three RBIs.

Austin Noble and Alex Roy earned one RBI each.
