The second-seed Bobcats’ run at a District trophy was cut short Thursday night, thanks to a 58-50 loss against host-team Highland.
Despite a 10-point (28-18) lead with less than three minutes left in the first half, the Bobcats’ opponents, who were misleadingly ranked sixth-seed, managed to score 11 unanswered points, taking a 29-28 lead at halftime.
The last half became a back-and-forth affair, with an eight-point Bowling Green run putting the Bobcats ahead 40-33.
Continuing the trend, a Highland basket broke the standing 48-48 tie with just under a minute and a half left.
With this lead, the home team went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line during the final minute, sealing their spot in the championship game, leaving the Bobcats to return home with a 14-13 record.
