Ten Hannibal-LaGrange University students received recognition of successfully completing the Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Course on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Burt Administration Building on the HLGU campus.

HLGU EMT Instructor, Dot Lake presented the Top Student Award to Rachel Williamson. This award is given to the student who demonstrates outstanding leadership and academic performance in the EMT Basic Course

Other graduates were Adam Chance Borchert, Jonathan Daniel Dolbeare, John Vincent Green, Russell Gus Loutzenhiser, Jessica Denise Miller, Abbey Deanne Reynolds, Adriene Brooke Slawson, Katie Mae Smashey, and Heather Marie Smith.

An opening prayer was given by Dr. Anthony Allen, President of the University. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Pelletier gave some remarks as well as Anne Riggs, Director of Nursing and Allied Health.

The ceremony was led by Dot Lake, BS/EMT-P Coordinator, Emergency Medical Services Division of Nursing and Allied Health.

After completion of the EMT-B class, these students are now eligible to take the next step in their emergency training at HGLU by taking the EMT-Paramedic course.

The next EMT-B class at HLGU starts Feb. 23, 2013.

β€œAn all day Saturday class allows the student who works elsewhere the flexibility to get the training while still working,” said Lake.

Applications for the program are found online at or can be picked up in the Nursing and Allied Health Department on campus. For more information on the HLGU Emergency Medical Services Program, contact Dot Lake at 573.629.3147 or via email at
