The Bowling Green Municipal Pool re-opened at noon on Tuesday which is one day after city officials announced that the outdoor swimming pool would be closed until further notice.
In a telephone interview with the Times, City Administrator Barb Allison said the decision to close the pool was due to a recommendation from Twin Pike Family YMCA Executive Director.
When reached by phone, Garrison said the pool was closed to allow YMCA staff at the pool to have additional safety training. The Twin Pike Family YMCA manages the pool and staffs the pool on behalf of the City of Bowling Green’s Parks and Recreation Department.
According to Garrison, the training session was organized after an unidentified child was reported to nearly have drowned in the city pool on Saturday evening.
“While the child is absolutely fine, we felt it was important enough of a reminder that we have this safety training,” Garrison said in a telephone interview on Monday afternoon.
Garrison said the safety training hopefully highlights to the public that the YMCA is committed to being as vigilant as possible when it comes to the safety of the patrons of the municipal pool.
