Bowling Green students participate in Colorfest young artist show

The 2013 Bank of Louisiana and Raintree Arts Council Young Artist show had 266 pieces in it this year.  Participating in this year’s show were Bowling Green Elementary, Bowling Green Middle School, Bowling Green High School, Clopton Schools, Frankford Elementary, Area Home schoolers, Logan Private Classes,  Louisiana Elementary, Louisiana Middle School and Louisiana High School.

The judge this year was Deb Myers from Ewing.  Myers is an associate Professor of Art at Culver Stockton College. She was impressed with the number of pieces, the variety of media and creativity in this show.  When selecting work she looked for originality of subject and use of media.  “I was very impressed with how strong the grades 6-8 were and gave more than one award in some of the places,” Myers stated.


Best of Show went to Emily Love.

Grades 11-12:

First place – Emily Love, second place – Ethan Helkey, third  place – Shelby Renner.

Honorable Mention: Madison Dolbeare, Ethan Helkey, Amber Berg, Ashley Martin.

Grades 9-10:

First place – Savannah Boehlein, second place – McKinley White, third place – Bly Haines.

Honorable Mention:

McKinley White, Savannah Boehlein, Chayse Hepler, Bly Haines, Kelly Smith.

In the grades 6-8, there were some ties:

First place went to both Andrew Pursifull and Nichiole Brun. Second place went to Spencer Butler. Third place was a tie between Madeline Norton and Mechia Campbell.

Honorable Mention: Kyla Berrey, Kelsey Finly, and Andrew Pursifull.

Grades 4-5:

First place – Tatum DePriest, second  place – Cecilia Hathaway, third  place – Jadyn Brooks.

Honorable Mention:  Alyanna Paradiang, Tatum DePriest.

Grades 2-3:

First place – Camdyn Penrod, second  place – Cooper Lumley, third  place – Anne Martion.

Honorable Mention:  Raegan Bowser, Emma McCollun, Elaine Butler, Camdyn Penrod.

Grades K-1:

First place – Tessa DePriest. second place – Kaiten Chatman, third place – Mealia Cover.

Honorable Mention: Tessa DePriest.

The People’s Choice award went to Ethan Helkey.
