Nothing seemed to be going right for Bowling Green High School’s baseball team in last week’s game against Winfield.
In the eyes of many, the Bobcats (1-3) came into the game as the definite underdog, as state-ranked Winfield (9-3) was coming to the game fresh off of their experiences playing in the Cal Ripken Experience Tournament hosted in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
“I think if people looked at their website and saw their stats, saw that they were averaging almost double-digit runs per game, and saw the quality of teams that they were playing, then I don’t think that they expected us to still be in this game in the bottom of the seventh inning,” Bowling Green High School Head Coach Dean Streed said in a post-game interview with the Bowling Green Times.
Nevertheless, the Bobcats found themselves locked in a 1-1 tie headed into the bottom of the seventh inning after Bowling Green’s Kobe McPike scored in the first inning and the Warriors hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The faces of Kameron Worley (No. 10) and Mavryk Comley (No. 32) carry looks of disbelief after the state-ranked Winfield Warriors scored the game’s winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. With their loss to Winfield, Bowling Green’s record now stands at 2-4.
