Churches to host teen, family grief support group

Posted on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 12:11 pm

Grief is a very real thing, no matter your age, race, or creed.  Oftentimes grief support groups are more designed for adults than the teenager.  No Strings Attached is a grief group being formed for teens and families.

This will be a two prong approach:  We will be meeting as a group and then dividing into teens and parents so each group may express themselves freely.

Joe Siefkas, of First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green,  came up with the idea once he saw the grief of the area teens and parents in the loss of so many of their friends in the recent 18 months.  He has enlisted Pastor Dawn Marie Turner, of Bowling Green First Christian and New Harmony Churches,  to help facilitate with him on this program.

Pastor Turner, in her previous career, was a funeral director at her family funeral home in Washington state and handled grief care.  She has worked 16 years in youth ministry and 12 years in full time pastorate.

All teens and families are invited on  Oct. 17, at  6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian fellowship hall.  This first meeting will be an explanation of the program and introductory meetings.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.  The next meeting being Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.
