The Louisiana Country Colorfest will once again bring crowds and tons of fun to the downtown area on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20.
Colorfest is officially kicked off at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the annual parade, which starts at Louisiana High School and goes all the way through downtown Louisiana on Georgia Street.
The Colorfest parade usually lasts about one hour and afterwards, locals and visitors will have plenty to see, do and eat downtown.
There will be about 15 food vendors, selling tasty treats including, but not limited to, kabobs, tenderloins, catfish, ice cream, and cotton candy.
Colorfest-goers can get breakfast before the parade at the American Legion Hall on the west end of town starting at 6 a.m.
Back on Georgia Street, “there will be a lot of new crafts,” said a colorfest organizer. “We’ve got more booths than we’ve ever had.”
Just prior to the parade, Colorfest attendees can enjoy the car show and swap meet at Louisiana’s riverfront. It will feature vintage automobiles and the muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s.
From 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a street dance at the riverfront with music by “Whodunnit” and a beer garden.
Also on Saturday, the Miss Colorfest and Junior Miss Colorfest coronation will be held at 12:30 p.m. on the main stage at Seventh and Georgia streets. That will be followed at 1 p.m. by the Little Mr. and Miss Colorfest contest at the same location.
Karaoke will start there at 2 p.m. and last through the afternoon.
On Sunday, the Howard Street Dancers will perform on the main stage at 1 p.m., followed by live music from “Mixed Nuts” at 2 p.m.
Also on Sunday, the popular baby show will be held at 1 p.m. at the Kids Korner two blocks west of the Mississippi River.
There will be a motorcycle show from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the riverfront.
Volunteers are still needed to make Colorfest another success. Brown asked them to attend the last meeting of the Colorfest Committee at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
