Haven’t been able to get a hold of your child’s teacher this summer? Heard rumors through the grapevine of computer problems at the schools? Technology Director George Beshears recently shed some light on the issue.
During the Bowling Green R-1 Board of Education meeting Monday evening, the board heard a technology issue update from Beshears.
According to the director of technology, the district recently sustained a computer virus attack of monumental standards.
“It was a major computer virus; it wiped everything out,” he said at the Monday night meeting.
Although school officials have not tracked the source of the virus, Beshears noted the issues began a few weeks before he started with the district. He went on to say that there was a Sysco brand firewall in place at one time, he explained; though it’s unclear exactly when and how it was removed from the system, as it was not listed as surplus at any point. At the time of the virus attack, there was no firewall or virus protection in place.
