The Frankford man accused of shooting his neighbor’s dog will return to Pike County Courts next week.
A Feb. 26 counsel status hearing is scheduled for Michael Buchanan, who is charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor animal abuse in connection to an incident that happened at his home last month.
Buchanan waived his formal arraignment on Jan. 29.
Official statements from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office report the incident happened at 4 p.m. Jan. 14 on a rural road east of Frankford.
According to the probable cause statement, Buchanan claimed he shot the dog because he thought it was going to attack him.
Buchanan is accused of then pointing the gun at the neighbor’s feet. Authorities say the neighbor struck the suspect in the face.
The defendant’s record shows no evidence of prior violence.
