Drive-by shooting suspects apprehended in Vandalia

Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 1:34 pm

A chaotic scene in Louisiana led to a chaotic scene in Vandalia last week after arrests were made in relation to a Pike County shooting.

Last Tuesday, there were 10 law enforcement patrol cars seeking a Louisiana shooting suspect in relation to an incident that took place earlier in the day.

Cruisers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Vandalia, Center, Pike County
Sheriff’s Department, Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, along with two unmarked vehicles converged in an effort to make an arrest.

They eventually tracked down suspect Aaron Weatherby, age 18, of Vandalia.

Weatherby and one other man was apprehended at an apartment in the 1000 block of S. Maple St. in Vandalia about 6:50 p.m. on March 11, according to Vandalia Police Chief Tony Laird.

Laird said an officer from his department spotted a red, two-door Chevrolet Cavalier at a Vandalia apartment complex that matched a vehicle Louisiana Police were searching for in connection with the shooting.

Vandalia and Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) officers obtained a search warrant and apprehended the men without incident, Laird said. They were held for Louisiana Police, who came and took them back to Pike County, he added.
