Eighth graders recycle electronics

Posted on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 2:10 pm

The eighth grade “Eco. Detectives” class is working on trying to get another electronic recycling drive this spring.

The group is working towards a March date.  The company they have utilized in the past is no longer doing pick up for free and have referred them to Mid-Mo Recycling.

Mid-Mo Recycling is a company from Columbia that is recommended by DNR for their responsible disposal of electronic materials.

Mid-Mo Recycling will come to Bowling Green for a minimum charge of $500, and they would charge for the following:

Monitors – $5

TV – less than 27 inches  – $10

TV – larger than 28 inches – $20

Microwaves – $5

Full size copy machines – $25

They will  take all other items at no charge. (Anything with a power cord or contains batteries) Some of the items are: keyboards, speakers, cell phones, house phones, printers, scanners, CPU, cables, cords, mixers, toasters, circuit boards, hard drives, fans, motors, lead batteries, radios, stereos, speakers, DVD, VCR, satellite receivers, fax machine, etc.

They do not accept pieces and parts of either televisions or monitors. They must be whole units.

The class is currently trying to make sure they will have enough materials to guarantee their $500 charge, the item’s dropped off goes towards their charge.

If you are a business that has lots of electronics that would go towards this, or if you would be willing to donate please contact Carey Scherder at
