Emergency management, planning agencies meet

The Pike County LEPC met on Monday, Oct. 28 at the Pike County Annex for their regular meeting. Attending members discussed disaster drills to be completed.

The meeting was called to order by Al Murry at 7:10 p.m.  Welcome and introductions were made.

Those in attendance were: Al Murry, PC EMA / LEPC; Don Nacke, Bowling Green FD; D. Randall Cone, Louisiana Ministerial Alliance; Brian Gregory, Dyno Nobel; Josh DePriest, Dyno Nobel; Larry LaFave, Eolia Fire Department; Steve Korte, Pike County Sheriff; and Jim Turner, Pike County Coroner.

The minutes from the July 29 meeting were approved without additions or corrections.

Murry gave the treasurers’ report as follows and summarized the following expenditures and deposits: one check for $600 for Groupcast; one deposit of $4181.16 from MERC. CEPF Fund: Beginning Balance, $10,640.13; Expenditures, $600;  Deposits, $4,181.16; Ending Balance, $14,221.29.

In old business, Murry reported that the Mutual Aid Agreement was complete. The plan will be distributed to all agencies on the mailing list for signing. The group offered discussion and report on the West Texas disaster. A report on the tour of the Dyno facility by the surrounding fire departments in September was given.

In new business, a report was given on the Region B exercise in Moberly that was attended by Murry and Chad Allison (PC Hwy Dept). The scenario was a severe winter storm with heavy ice.

There was a discussion of the county table top exercise to be held at Dyno Nobel on Nov. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. All participants are to meet at the main gate guard house.

The GroupCast bill of $600 was approved for payment at the last Communication Sub-committee meeting by the LEPC members present.

Korte reported that the generator at the PCSO / 911 / EOC has been completed and is on-line. He also reported on the Region C RHSOC meeting on Oct. 23 in Eureka.

There was a report and discussion of the Red Cross decision to close the Hannibal office, and serve the area out of St Louis.

Korte reported that the Salvation Army has added two new canteen trucks to serve the KC and STL areas.

There was discussion of a need by the Sheriff’s Office for more SCBA for meth lab mediation use and the need for more Haz-mat Gas detection equipment in the county.

DePriest made a motion to have LaFave get Quotes and for the LEPC to purchase 3 gas detector kits at up to $1,000 each.  Korte Seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Turner reported that the state coroners association is working on a possible coroner’s mutual aid agreement.

There was discussion of two large tents offered to the county at a cost of $2,500 and their possible usage.

As there was no more business to conduct, Al Murry motioned to adjourn the meeting.  DePriest seconded the motion.  The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

The next meeting date will be determined later, but will be held at the County Annex.
