Glen Barr, Sr., age 83, of Middletown, passed away at 11 a.m., Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his home.
Visitation will be held from 6:-8: p.m., Wednesday, February 6 at the Myers Funeral Home in Middletown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 7 at the funeral home. The Rev. Van Williams will officiate.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Barr, Glen Barr, Ralph Barr, Shawn Enochs, William Leverett, and Gordon Schrader.
Honorary pallbearers will be Devon Enochs, Brenden Enochs, Jacob Wieberg, Mark Barr, Jacob Barr, and Chad Mitchell.
Mr. Barr was born November 2, 1929, in Monroe City, Mo., a son of Ralph Barr, Sr. and Irene Balliet Barr.
Glen was a 1946 graduate of Center High School in Center, Mo.
On June 18, 1948, in Salem Ark., he married Wanda Madeline Tapley. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1991.
Glen proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Medical Technician entering on January 18, 1952 and being honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 18, 1954. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
Glen had worked at Harbison Walker Refractories in Vandalia as a grinder from August of 1948 until he got drafted into the war in 1952.
He then continued his employment at the brick plant after he was discharged from the military until he retired at the age of 67.
Glen had lived at his present address since 1977 and most of his life in the Middletown, Vandalia, and Farber area.
He loved coon hunting and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed fishing. Much of Glen’s pastime was spent reading, especially western Louis L’Amour books.
Glen is survived by his six children, Jude Elaine Turner, of St. Charles; Ralph David Barr, of Vandalia; Jacqueline Diane “Jackie” Schrader and husband, Gordon, of St. Peters; Donnie Barr, of Middletown; Tami Leverett and husband, William, of Middletown; and Glen Allen Barr, Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Montgomery City; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Shawn and Justine Enochs, of St. Peters; Lisa and Bo Warden, of Fulton; Anita and Steve Burbank, of St. Charles; Wendy Schrader and Erica Schrader, both of St. Peters; Mark Barr and Charles and April Leverett, all of Columbia; Katie and Carl Morningstar and Matt Leverett, all of Middletown; Rae Anne Turner, of St. Peters; and Jacob Barr and Madelyn Barr, both of Montgomery City; 10 great-grandchildren, Autumn Schrader, Devon Enochs, Brenden Enochs, Joshlyn Enochs, Jacob Wieberg, Beau Whittle, Blake Whittle, Gabe Barr, Jason Brown and Kyle Barr; daughter-in-law, Frances Barr, of Laddonia; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Madeline Barr; infant daughter; grandson, Teddy Barr; great-grandson, Carl Morningstar, Jr.; brothers, Ralph Barr, Jr. and Earl E. Barr, Sr.; sisters, Fern Shoemate, Fay Marie Barr and Daisy Mapes and nephew, Butch Shaw.
