Helen K. Grimmett

Helen Katherine (Porter) Grimmett, age 101, of Vandalia, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until service time on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Second Christian Church in Vandalia, Mo.

Service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Second Christian Church in Vandalia, Mo.

All services are under the direction of Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia, Mo.

Officiating will be the Rev. M. Faye Vaughn. Music will be provided by the Faith Tabernacle Choir. Interment will be in the Green Ridge Cemetery in Frankford, Mo.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Greene, William Wheeler, Joe Walker, Roger Chatman, Kenneth Wheeler, and Michael Reynolds.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Stapleton, Roy McQuay, Matthew Salmon, and Chester Fugate.

Helen K. Grimmett was born on December 9, 1911 in Frankford, Mo., the daughter of John and Arphelia (Acuff) Porter.

She was married to Harley Grimmett in Vandalia in 1937; he preceded her in death in 1961.

She grew up and attended country schools in the Frankford area.

Helen was a long-time and the oldest member of Second Christian Church in Vandalia. As a member of the church, she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and had sung in the Senior Choir. After moving to Vandalia with her husband in 1937, Helen worked for many, many years for Alfred Betts at both his furniture store and at his home. She enjoyed watching television, fishing, and barbecuing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Harley.

Survivors include several cousins and special friends, Catherine and Matthew Salmon, of Vandalia.

Memorials are encouraged to the Second Christian Church of Vandalia.
