After he began serving both the First Presbyterian Churches of Bowling Green and Louisiana on January 1st of this year, Reverend Dr. James “Jay” Ayers will now be officially installed.
The installation service will be held this Sunday, February 24 th at the First Presbyterian Church in Louisiana beginning at 4 p.m. The service is open to the public. It is hoped many will join us in officially welcoming Reverend Ayers to our communities.
The service will include a hymn written by Ayers sung by the choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green as well as a message from Rev. Ayers.
The Executive Presbyter and Moderator of the Missouri Union Presbytery will also be involved in the service.
Reverend Ayers was ordained in 1982 and most recently served the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Wichita, KS after having served various churches in Kentucky, Massachusetts and Kansas.
He grew up in New York and received his B.A. from the University of Albany, Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and his PhD from Boston College.
Writing is a passion of Reverend Ayers. He has written well over 100 journal and magazine articles. In addition, he wrote the monthly Question and Answer column for Presbyterians Today, the denominational magazine, for over 20 years.
Ayers hopes to sponsor a literary / writing club in the area high schools.
Getting involved in the communities is important to Reverend Ayers. He has already joined the Rotary Clubs in both Bowling Green and Louisiana.
