A rural Louisville couple, who first met on the dance floor at the Niemeyer Dance Hall, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this weekend.
Leon Knock, 92, and Geneva (nee Orf) Knock, 90, were married in St. Clement Catholic Church on April 7, 1948. While the story of their marriage began on that date, the story of these two nonagenarians begins several years earlier at the aforementioned dance hall.
Geneva had come to the dance that night to watch her brothers — Truman “Doc” Orf, Ezra “Casey” Orf, Roland “Duke” Orf, Bill Orf, and James Orf — play in the family’s band.
Leon had come to socialize and have a good time.
According to both Leon and Geneva, neither of them were looking for love that evening.
“I had been sitting at the bar and having a beer, if you really want to know the truth, and I saw her,” Leon said in an interview with the Bowling Green Times in the living room of his rural Pike County home.
As Leon tells it, he spotted Geneva across the room. She was dancing with some friends.
“I don’t know if it was me or the beer talking, but I went up to ask her to dance,” Leon said.
More than 73 years later, Geneva can still remember the first sentence that Leon spoke to her.

Leon and Geneva Knock are pictured in the living room of their rural Pike County home. The couple are holding their wedding portrait from April 7, 1948. The couple, who met on the dance floor of a Bowling Green area dance hall, were wed in St. Clement before a large group of their family and friends.
