The Amish community members have valued members of the Pike County community, as they live, work, and socialize with the ‘English’ (aka you and I) on a regular basis since their arrival in 1947. The Amish disregard the modern way of life and are content to do so. Living without electricity, phones, cars, they live their lives guided by their faith and the kerosene lamps in their hands.
The Amish community in Bowling boasts a cabinet shop, a saw mill, a leather shop, several bakeries, a candy shop, a blacksmith, a dry goods store, a weaver, a tailor, a butcher, and a millinery shop. All business are open to the public. The public is reminded that the Amish do not wish to have pictures taken of them.
