A Bowling Green man was killed on December 4, 2018, when the 2002 GMC Envoy he was riding in slid off an ice-covered bridge on U.S. Highway 54 west of Highway 61.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was driven by Loel G. Chatman, 28, of Bowling Green. Riding with Chatman were Cinda R. Smith, 36, of Louisiana, and Don J. Weaver, Jr., of Bowling Green.
In their report of the crash, the highway patrol states that the vehicle was heading eastbound on Highway 54 when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
Weaver, Jr., was later pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Memorial Hospital Ambulance personnel at 12:31 a.m. on December 4. The body of Weaver, Jr. was taken to Bibb-Veach Funeral Home.
Smith and Chatman both suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
Chatman was taken by a private vehicle to PCMH for treatment of his injuries.
Smith was taken by ambulance to SSM Health’s St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis.
All of the vehicle’s occupants — Chatman, Smith, and Weaver, Jr. — were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
