District to offer bus transportation to preschool students

Kayla Rennecker and Coleman Peabody work on a reading comprehension activity while Bowling Green
High School Senior Mallory Feldewerth looks on. The two preschool students are enrolled in the morning
session of the school district’s preschool program. Feldewerth was in the classroom as a participant in a job
shadowing program for high school students.

The Bowling Green R-I School Board voted
unanimously last week to expand the school’s preschool
program from 40 students to 80 students
beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.
The students in the expanded program will
meet at Bowling Green Elementary School.
In their decision, the school board also gave preliminary
approval for the school district to provide
bus transportation for the students. Details of the
transportation program are still being determined,
according to Bowling Green R-I Superintendent of
Schools Dr. Matt Frederickson.
“In order for this to be successful and to be
reaching the kids who need it the most, we need to
provide transportation,” Frederickson said.
The superintendent said the decision to expand
the preschool program was driven by a visible
need within the community.
