Joyce Lewis, FGCM State President, and Maisie Keeser, former FGCM State President, of Clarksville Garden Club, joined federated garden club members throughout the St. Louis Metro, as well as members from seven states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin) as they gathered in Amish Country in northern Indiana.

They met at the Essenhaus Inn and Convention Center for the 81st Central Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc., convention Oct. 16 through 18.

A presentation was given by Sonja Miller entitled “Quilt Gardens of Elkhart County, Ind.” Also, interactive seminars with WNIT Television in South Bend, Ind. filled the afternoon.

A reception prior to dinner honored the National Garden Club President Linda Nelson and the Central Region Director Gerry Ford.

After dinner, there was a demonstration on how to patch together a “funky junque flower show.”

Garden club members from the Central Region – seven states – are affiliated with National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC) headquartered in St. Louis.

NGC includes 188,146 members and 5,737 member garden clubs, as well as 70 national affiliates across the U.S. and 293 international affiliate member clubs.

These garden clubs – whether local, state, regional or national – provide education, resources and networking opportunities for their members, to promote the love of gardening, floral design and civic and environmental responsibility.

Garden clubs often are involved in their local community beautification projects plus encouragement of future generations through college scholarships.
