Man arrested for drugs near Bowling Green

An Illinois man was arrested near Bowling Green last week and is facing a felony drug charge as a result.

According to Pike County Sheriff Stephen Korte, on March 10 a Pike County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for speeding on Highway 54 West of Bowling Green.

Upon making contact with the driver, the Deputy noticed a strong odor of marijuana.

The driver admitted to possessing marijuana and presented the Deputy with a small pill bottle containing the drug.

After the driver was arrested, a search of the vehicle produced five one-pound, two-ounce bags of marijuana.

Subsequently, the driver, Mark S. Gustafson, 54, of Antioch Ill. was arrested.

Pike County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Fisher has charged Gustafson with a class B felony of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The Honorable Judge David Ash issued a warrant for Gustafson and set bail at $50,000 cash only. Gustafson was arraigned on  March 12 and was authorized 10 percent cash on his bond which he did post and is currently free on bond.

All persons charged with a crime are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
