Margaret Nickelson

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Lee Nickelson, 82, of Vandalia, formerly of Louisiana, were held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Don Amelung officiated. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana.

Mrs. Nickelson passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at her home in Vandalia.

She was born June 30, 1930 in Montgomery City, Mo.  to Wesley and Mabel Resor Preston.

She married James Roy Walker on May 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1977. She married Orville Nickelson, April l, 1989 and he preceded her in death October 25, 1990.

Margaret is survived by eight sons, Alan Walker, Gary Walker, Earl Walker, Roger Walker and wife, Kathy all of Louisiana, David Walker and wife, Joyce of Santee, Calif., Joe Walker and wife, Kathy of Snowflake, Ariz., James Walker and wife, Susie of Bakersfield, Calif., and Roy Don Walker and wife, Rosemary of New London, Wis.; six daughters, Etta Motley of Rockport, Ill., Susan Duncan and husband, Tom, and Mabel Walker all of Louisiana, Lelia Edwards and husband, Roy of Troy, Nellie Smith of Vandalia, and Margaret McCarty and husband, Jim of Louisiana; one sister, Mildred Turner of Troy; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Walker who died June 16, 1994, one brother, Raymond Preston and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Taylor, James Walker, Justin Walker, Joshua Lawson, Earl Walker, Jr., Bradley Motley and an honorary pallbearer, William Smith.
