Mary Ellen Perkins, 93, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Maple Grove Lodge Nursing Home in Louisiana.

She was the nineth of 11 children born to James Alexander and Mary (Mamie) Sanders in Louisiana on Nov. 27, 1919.

She married George (Perk) Perkins on July 29, 1938 in Louisiana.  She lived for a while in Alton, Ill. where she met her long time partner Robert (Bobby) Pitts.  They moved to Bloomington, Ill. where they lived for many years.

She then moved to Davenport, Iowa and lived with a favorite niece, Barbara Williamson.  After the death of her niece, she moved to Clarksville, in 2006 to live with the McPikes.

She worked as a housekeeper most of her life where she also enjoyed helping rear the children of the family.  She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and socializing.  At the nursing home not too much could get past her.

She wanted the door left open to her room so that she could see and hear all the happenings and give her input.  She was working on completing her therapy to walk again and no doubt a secret desire to drive her beloved car again.  She was a jokester at times and enjoyed having fun.  She will be missed by many.

Mary survived all of her siblings: Myrtle, Ruby, James, Carman, William (Billy), Mildred and Opal Ashby and infant sister of Louisiana, Virgil of Hannibal, and Charles (CW) of Rock Island, Ill.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Charles (Mildred) Sanders and Bonnie Ossian of Bettendorf, Iowa,  Blanche (William) Jackson of Rock Island, Ill.,  Ruby Ashby of Philadelphia, Penn.  and Alex (Butch) (AO) of Eolia. Also survived by her extended family the McPikes;  Craig and Tammi and their children; Maleek, McCaylee, Craig Dixon and Family and Jeff Ries and Family.  Her Goddaughter Bernice Austin of Springfield and Special Friend Charlene Beard of Bloomington, Ill.  Also to mention her sister-in-law, Willa Sanders of Rock Island, Ill.  There are many great nieces, great nephews and friends too numerous to list.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all ten siblings, husband George Perkins and long time partner Robert Pitts.

Her wish was to be buried next to her long time partner Robert (Bobby) Pitts. Graveside services are pending at East Lawn Cemetery in Bloomington, Ill.  Collier Funeral Homes, Inc. was in charge of local arrangements.
