The Missouri Folk Arts Program (MFAP) convened a volunteer panel of cultural specialists in the fall. They reviewed 22 applications and recommended awards for seven traditional apprenticeship teams across the state. Since its inception in 1984, Missouri’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAAP) has paired almost 400 master folk artists with apprentices to pass traditions on to the next generation. Charles and JoAnn Cox of Bowling Green received this award and for the last five months have been teaching the art of chair caning.
