Kobe McPike, a BGHS freshman, was selected by the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club to represent STL Cardinals in the 2014 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, Aug. 6 through 12.
McPike’s first step was to go to Milwaukee, Wis. to play in the Mid-West Central Regional Tournament, July 25 through 28, hosted by the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
His team went 4-0 and became Mid-West Regional Champions by playing teams KC Kansas Slicks, KC Royals, Chicago White Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals never allowed a run through the tournament.
McPike went nine of 11 with six singles, four doubles, one triple, was hit by two pitches, and walked twice, giving him a batting average of over 800 for the tournament.
The championship game against the White Sox was 3-0 with McPike batting in two RBI’s and stealing home for the third run.
Congratulations to the Cardinals and Kobe McPike as the Mid-West Central Regional Champions.
The Cardinals will now send the team to Dallas, Texas to play in the National World Series Championship at the Rangers Stadium.
Kobe is the son of Earl and Paulette McPike and the grandson of Carl and Bessie McPike, of Bowling Green.
