A former Eolia resident has been charged in a case involving the sexual abuse of a then six-year-old boy.

Darren Richard Mills, 40, was arrested March 18 in connection to a hotline call made to the Missouri Division of Family Services (DFS) alleging sexual abuse of a young boy at a residence in Eolia.

He faces three felony counts of first degree statutory sodomy (deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old).

According to a probable cause statement completed by a detective with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office,  DFS reported the hotline call alleging the abuse to the Sheriff’s Office on July 29 of last year.

Interviews with the victim and the victim’s family led authorities to believe the abuse had taken place on several occasions at an Eolia residence and at the home of a family member.

Records show Mills faces a separate Pike County felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender from earlier this year.

The defendant was released on bond last Thursday after he was seen for an arraignment on March 25. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 30.
