Nazarene Youth celebrating 25 years of annual BBQ fundraisers

Posted on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 1:45 pm

It started 25 years ago in 1988, the first BBQ that the youth leaders and teens held.  Who would have thought that it would still be going on 25 years later and continuing to be just as successful?

The first of many BBQ fundraising events were held at the Old Kroger parking lot on Business 61.  We also used the Old IGA parking lot and then moved to the new IGA parking lot, which is now County Market.  With the new construction of our new building and Sanctuary presented us with the opportunity of being able to have the BBQ at the church which made it easier and more convenient for the workers and the public as we had some indoor seating for the hot weather periods and at time little rain showers.

About 12 years ago we wanted to help the children’s department with their church camp cost and let the children take over the Bake Sale.  These fundraising events have helped so many teens and children attend camp at an affordable price.

It is evident in the lives of these youth and teens that this event has been a blessing and the rewards they reap from their camp experiences are priceless.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the local Businesses and the Public for supporting our BBQ and Bake Sale Annual Fundraising events these past 25 years.  We truly feel blessed and love to see everyone each year when they come and support us.

This year we are going to celebrate and would like to invite the public to come by on Friday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for cake and a time of fellowship to share in this special occasion with us.  Cathy Veach will be heading up our celebration festivities so be sure to ask her and John about their experiences as they have many stories to share and were workers at the first BBQ held in 1988.
