The annual meeting of the Neighbors of the Mississippi was held Feb. 20 at Portage Des Sioux.
Reports on last year’s activities were given and plans for the new year were made.
Ed. Schieffer, 11th District State Representative, was the guest speaker.
Members of the Board of Directors of Neighbors of the Mississippi have been working hard over the past year.
Terry Walton, Brian Wehde, Jerry Daugherty and Nancy Guyton, Secretary, attended meetings in Warsaw, Ill. and Troy; Mark Harvey has attended meetings on behalf of Neighbors and Mark and Jerry Daugherty gave a presentation at the Mississippi River Commission meeting at Alton, Ill.; Andy Burkemper, Chariman of the Board attended the Mississippi Valley Flood Control Association meeting in New Orleans, La., and several board members have made trips to Washington, D.C.
Jaime Aslin, Treasurer, is working to start a website, and committees are being formed to work toward our goals.
Our membership looks to this new year with enthusiasm as we continue to provide representation for the citizens of Pike, Lincoln, and St. Charles Counties on issues of common interest concerning the Mississippi River and its tributaries which flow through our communities.
