National Public Health Week is celebrated the first week of April each year. This year’s theme is “Public Health: Start Here. Better Health. Better Missouri.”
Good personal health is connected to good public health. Each individual has an impact on the health of the nation.
This Year Pike County Health Department (PCHD) is excited to celebrate with our community in providing preventive education, services, and fun activities to help assure area residents have the tools they need to improve their health as an individual and to become an ambassador for a healthier lifestyle.
On Monday, April 7 PCHD will kick it off with their “Smart Start” theme at the Pike County Health Department office with educational material, and a chance to enter to win a free car seat (must be installed by one of our Certified Child Passenger Technicians). They will also be providing Car Seat Checks from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 8 the theme is “Don’t Panic-Be Prepared.” PCHD will have educational materials for emergency preparedness, videos, smoke detectors to the first 25 people/families, and a special event for our children – The Bowling Green Fire Department will have the Fire Truck at the office from 3 to 4 p.m. for everyone to learn about fire safety.
On Wednesday, April 9 the theme is “Get out Ahead.” PCHD will be offering free Cardiac Risk Assessments with cholesterol check to the first five people and then will be at a discounted rate all day during their walk-in hours of 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On Thursday, April 10 the theme is “Eating Well.” Food safety and healthy nutrition is so important and PCHD will be having educational information as well as their nutritionist available for information. For a treat, they will have the “blender bike” at the office, where visitors can make a fruit smoothie.
And the final day, Friday, April 11 their theme is “Fit & Fun.” The folks at PCHD have planned to end with a big celebration with some kid fun and activities.
The event will take place at the Bowling Green Visitors Center, next to the Health Department from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
They are partnering with other community organizations that will also have activities at the “Fun Kid’s Activities and Fun Run.” There will be many giveaways as well as fruit and water for everyone. In the event of rain, the activities will be moved to the Health Department, but the “fun run” will be cancelled.
