Pike County Memorial Hospital is excited to begin offering Digital Mammography.   The recently acquired equipment is one of the latest generations of mammography equipment from Hologic, the world leader in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Digital mammography is revolutionizing the practice of mammography through its ability to yield high quality images at low radiation dose.

The breast cancer statistics are staggering:

• One of eight women living in the U.S. will get breast cancer in her lifetime.

• Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.  It’s the leading cause of death in 35 to 65 year old women.

For most women 40 and over, an annual mammogram is the best way of finding breast cancer early. Mammograms play a central part in the early detection of breast cancer because they can detect changes in the breast that may be early signs of cancer, but are too small or subtle to be felt.

By offering women this technology in mammography, PCMH hopes to increase the number of area women who should be routinely screened.

PCMH is committed to the fight against breast cancer. Women should call 573-754-5531 x 128 to see if they would benefit by having a mammogram on the new equipment.
