The Pike County Democrats held their May meeting at the Cozy C Campground Community Meeting Room and were served ice cream and homemade cakes.
Jerri Harrelson, president, presided over the meeting.
During the roll call portion of the meeting, all candidates running for office were introduced. Also introduced were all of the members who were present for the meeting. It was noted that nine towns in Pike County were represented at the meeting.
During the business portion of the meeting, sign-up sheets were distributed to work at the club’s booth at the bicentennial event in Louisiana and at the Pike County Fair.
A list of upcoming events was also compiled and it will be distributed once it is complete. It was also announced that the 30th Annual Dollar Day Picnic will be held on Monday, June 25. The picnic, which is sponsored by the Missouri Democrat Days, Inc., organization, will be held at Spaulding Beach. All local Democrats are encouraged to attend this event which begins with a social hour at 5 p.m.
The dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with political speeches to follow at 7 p.m.
At the request of several members of the club, a card shower is being organized for Barbara Husler, who has a critical medical issue. She has been a faithful member of the club for many years.
The next meeting of the Pike County Democratic Club will be Thursday, June 21, at Bowling Green Community Center, located at 201 W. Locust St.
The speakers for the meeting will be Tara Morrison Eskew and Rhonda Niemeyer, who are both candidates on the Democratic Party’s nomination for the Pike County Collector position.
The party primary is August 7. The winner of the primary will advance to the November General Election, where they are unopposed.
