As 2014 begins, plans are already underway for the Wind Ridge
Farmers’ Market in Eolia and the River Hills Market in Silex.
The market year will begin at the Silex Park at 8 a.m. with a market session, followed by a business meeting at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be for both markets.
New market officers for 2014-2015 are Aaron Burgen, of Higbee, vice-president, Kelly Klober, of Silex, market president, board member Phil Peak, of Wellsville, and board member Linda Covington, of O’Fallon.
They join market secreatary/treasurer Dale Davis, of Bowling Green.
Peak and Klober represented the market at the national Acres USA Conference in Springfield, Ill. in mid-December.
The Silex Market will go every second Saturday morning, from February through November.
The Eolia Market will begin on March 29. It will begin at 8 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. there
will be a special auction of poultry breeding stock, small stock, and related equipment and supplies. One or more meat bird buyers will be at all markets this year.
On March 22, the two markets will join with Central Elevator at Silex to hold a special market and teaching event for 4-H and FFA youngsters with poultry projects. It is open to all from Pike, Lincoln, Warren, and surrounding counties. Breeders and judges will be on hand to advise on bird selection and fitting and laying hen evaluation for egg producers of all ages.
The markets are open to all farmers and growers in Eastern
