Players needed for Ambassadors game

The Bowling Green Rotary Club is looking for local basketball players to take on the Harlem Ambassadors  who are coming to Bowling Green Nov. 13 in the high school Gym.

This event will mark the first time the Ambassadors team has ever come to Pike County.  The game is sponsored by the Rotary Club, and will serve as a fundraiser.

The Tuesday night contest which will have an overarching Christian theme, and be more whimsical than competitive.  Event coordinator Buddy Bibb is seeking 17 players to make up the local team, the Rotary All-Stars.

Each player must be over 19, and raise $170 to participate in the event where they will challenge the professional athletes. The deadline to sign up  to be on the Rotary All-Stars team is Oct. 13.

Bibb says he hopes to incorporate players from surrounding communities as well.

Each player will receive a team t-shirt  and be listed on the official roster at the event which is expected to be highly publicized. There will be a drawing at the game for a signed team basketball.

The Ambassadors are college-age athletes who travel the world helping various non-for-profit organizations.

The game will start at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $7 for students and seniors (65 and older), $9 for adults. At the door, tickets will be $9 for students and seniors and $11 for adults. Children six and under will be admitted free. Tickets are available at People’s Bank and Trust in Bowling Green, Community State Bank, Pike County Mutual Insurance, Hannibal National Bank, or from any local Rotarian.
