In the Warmth of Christ,
Bro. Frank Welch
Proverbs 26:20 Where there is no wood the fire goes out… This works two ways–you can build a fire of strife or build a fire of eternal life.
What do we need? We need a spiritual fire in our churches, but we will never have it unless someone throws some wood on the fire. So let us be about heaping up the fire. Paul helped keep the fire burning in Acts 28. He gathered a bundle of sticks for the fire. Fire speaks of light, warmth, survival, and drives away evil. In Acts 28, Paul shook the viper off into the fire.
I. Our Duty (Throw Wood on the Fire)
What happens if you don’t stoke the fire? The fire goes out. When you have two or more coals, it is easy to get the fire going. One coal by its self will fade away fast. Folks, we are in this journey together; we can’t do it by ourselves. We must keep the fire going.
2.The Danger (No Wood, the Fire goes Out)
The fire has gone out in many hearts (cold on God). How many times a day do you share Christ with someone? How many times a day do you give God the credit that He deserves? (Praise the Lord! Thank you Lord.)
Fire has gone out in many homes. Our love has grown cold for each other. Divorce is as high in the church as it is among the world. Homes are full of disobedience, where the children tell the parents what to do.
Fire has gone out in many Houses of God (Churches). Why? The church is becoming like the world where everything goes. The whatever attitude. Folks, we must stand strong for our God! His Word is very valuable to the world.
Faith is cold: We have a lack of faith. How can we build faith among brothers and sisters in Christ? Through our testimonies, by sharing what the Holy Spirit is doing in our life. Through Christ our Savior and Lord, we can encourage each other.
2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to ever one who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
Love is Cold: Why is the love of many growing cold? Matthew 24:12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
These are the end times. People have stopped using the Bible to live their life by. The way of the world is “whatever.” God’s Word is truth. If we want the world to change, we must obey God’s Word and accept the love of Jesus through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Joy is Cold: Psalms 51:12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit.
Thoughtfulness and Kindness is Cold: The more we think of others and their needs, the happier we will be. The way of the world is me, me, me, me, me. God’s way is we look out for others and He looks out for us. Amen! This means not only our friends, but who else?
Matthew 5:44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” With God’s help this is possible.
Worship is Cold in many churches. Praise God for our Worship time! God is our audience, let’s give Him our best.
Testimonies are Cold: Where is the excitement?
Praising God is Cold: I challenge you to lift up your hands and praise God in His fullness.
3. It’s time we throw some wood on the fire. We have the greatest wood shed there is: The Holy Bible, God’s Word. It is filled with all the best wood God has to offer:
Hard Wood (stood the test of time)
Heaven’s Wood (didn’t come from the earth, came from heaven)
Holy Wood (God’s Word, not man’s word)
Helpful Wood (produce warmth)- Open up God’s Word on the coldest of days it will warm your heart.
Healing Wood God heals many broken hearts, broken spirits, and even broken legs beyond human explanation. He is still in the healing business. (Emotional, spiritual, and physical)
Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day God wants to heal you. Whatever your need is, we can take it to the Lord in prayer.
Folks, we have so much going for us, let us stoke up the fire with God’s Word, it will warm up your heart in the coldest days.
