Robert A. Peckman, 72 of Bowling Green, passed away Nov. 29, 2012 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the St. Clement Catholic Church in St. Clement, with Fr. Bill Peckman officiating. Cremation rites will follow with a memorial mass being held at a later date at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Latham, N.Y. He will be buried in the Oakridge Cemetery in Somonauk, Ill. in the spring.
He was born Nov. 28, 1940 the son of Stanley E. and Dorothy Gusler Peckman. He married Katherine Louise Hodge on Nov. 21, 1964, there were married for 23 years. He is survived by his sons Fr. Bill Peckman of St. Clement, Joseph Peckman and wife Jennifer of Adams, N.Y. and John Peckman of Sackets Harbor, N.Y.; daughters Lynn Angus and husband Mark of Watervliet, N.Y., Ann Spencer and husband Lijah of Mannsville, N.Y. and Mary Amo and husband Mike of Watertown, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert grew up in Missouri and Illinois, he moved around the country while he was in the United States Army, serving with the corp of engineers and with the Dept. of the Interior as a cartorgrapher and surveyor. He left that field to teach college at Paul Smith’s College where he taught surveying. He took early retirement to take care of his parents in Arkansas and later moved to St. Augustine, Fla., after they passed away. When his health started to fail him, he moved to St. Clement to live with his son. He loved nature and the outdoors and especially loved fishing. He always had a special place in his heart for pets. He was a member of the Catholic church and was a very faith filled individual.
Serving as pallbearers were Marcin Jacyna, Ed Burt, Larry Dean, Larry Twellman, Michael McGrath and Patrick McGrath.
Memorials may be made to the St. Clement Construction fund, St. Clement Cares Fund, or the Autism Society of America. Several of Mr. Peckman’s grandchildren have autism.
