Throughout the months of July and August, grant checks for rural fire departments will be distributed by staff of the Missouri Department of Conservation, Forestry Division. More than 180 fire departments are receiving grants of up to $4,000 to aid in the purchase of protective gear and firefighting equipment, for both wildfires and structure fire suppression. The total funding awarded within the state of Missouri came to $354,467. Through the grant program, the fire departments are required to match 50 percent of teh funds provided by the Department of Conservation. More than $7 million has been distributed to rural fire departments in the last 30 years. Monday morning, Randy Hulse (right) of the Missouri Department of Conservation, presented BGFD Chief Don Nacke with a grant check for more than $720. Nacke indicated the rural fire department is purchasing a new radio and hose nozzle with the money.
