First quarter has flown by and it seems impossible that we are quickly approaching Thanksgiving. We have had loads of activities at Bowling Green Middle School in the past month. The first event I’d like to talk about is our 5K Walk/Run for Abbi Lucas held on Oct. 13. With the student, staff, and community support, we were able to raise $5,441 for Abbi and her family to help with their medical expenses. We had a little over 300 people who registered for the event, and several people who simply made donations. There are several people that we would like to thank for their donations and volunteering to help with the organization and operation of the event: Pepsi, Crossroads, Abel’s, Bowling Green Police Department, General Mills, Bowling Green Times, The Peoples Tribune, BGMS Student Council, Bowling Green School District staff and students, Clopton school district, City Hall, Bowling Green FFA, Sparks Custom Apparel, Feeder’s Grain, our Middle School PTO (Cat’s in the Middle), and all of the volunteers at the event. I’d also like to mention a special thanks to Jayne Yoder, and Kim and David Luebrecht, who were instrumental in preparing and setting up the community event. It was an awesome morning, even though the weather wasn’t as cooperative as we would’ve liked, and it was incredibly touching to see all of the people that came out in support of Abbi. Thanks again to everyone who participated and volunteered in making it a memorable day! Congratulations to the winners of the 5K as well, Matt Chance and Angela Matlock.
Our second event that is coming soon is our Annual Veteran’s Day program which will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, starting at 11 a.m. Our social hour starts at 11 a.m. with the luncheon following shortly after, and the student program starting at approximately 12:45 p.m. We have had over 200 veterans join us each year and we are hoping to have another successful turnout this year. If you are a veteran and would like to join us for our ceremony, please call the middle school at 324-2181 before Nov. 9 so we can reserve you a spot.
Our Middle School Basketball season gets underway on Nov. 15 against Elsberry at 5:30 p.m. Boys will play at home, and girls will play at Elsberry. We had a successful fall season of athletics and we hope it continues into the winter months.
Our Middle School Band and Choir will be having their Christmas Concert on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Please mark the date on your calendars, and we hope to see you there.
We had our first round of Student- Led Conferences on Oct. 24 and 25. We had nearly 75% attendance at each grade level, and we appreciate the interest in your child’s education. We will be hosting a second round of conferences in February.
