The second Wind River Farmers’ Market at Eolia will be held on Saturday, May 25 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will be held on Main Street in the large lot adjacent to Scotty’s Market. The Bowling Green FFA will be there with their plant trailer featuring vegetable plants and oranmentals.
The first market in April was quite successful with 15 farm and craft vendors and with a steady stream of shoppers. The May market arrives in time for vegetable plants, early produce, baby and starter chicks, jellies and jams, craft items, and more. Breakfast and lunch will be available on the grounds and will feature locally produced pork and beef.
The market is open to all farmers, growers, and crafters in Pike and surrounding counties. Free market spaces are always available to non-for-profit and church groups.
At least two more trial markets are scheduled for 2013 on the fourth Saturday mornings of July and September. The July market will be free to all 4-H and FFA members to market production and surplus items from their projects.
A brief business meeting will follow the May market and on the agenda are the possibility of adding more market dates in 2013 and a special, Fall themed market event. For more information about Wind Ridge Farmers’ Market or to participate in it, the contact numbers are 573-485-7261 or 573-324-5354.
The Eolia market was one of those recently featured in an article on farmers’ markets in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It is also included on the facebook listings for the Missouri Farmers’ Market Association and shares promotions and activities with the River Hills Market at Silex.
