John and Beth Shannon and family of Bowling Green were among the 108 families honored during the Missouri State Fair’s Farm Family Day on Aug. 12.
The Shannons were selected as the Pike County Missouri State Fair Farm Family by the Pike County Extension Council and local Farm Bureau. The family includes John, Beth and Connor.
Each year, the fair sets aside a day to recognize farm families from across the state who are active in their community, involved in agriculture and participate in local outreach and extension programs such as 4-H and FFA.
The Shannons operate a 600-acre row crop and beef operation. The family is also active in the 4-H program. John has served as the assistant and chairman of the beef show. John and Beth have also assisted with the horse show. Connor is active in the horse project, beef, shooting sports and leathercraft.
The annual event was sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri State Fair, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and University of Missouri Extension.
