Michael Lee Phillips, 45, of St John, has been charged with a class A felony of murder in the second degree and with armed criminal action after his son, Jeff Chisholm, 22, also of St John, was pronounced dead the night of Saturday, Aug. 31 on Pike 52, near Frankford.
According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:50 p.m. Saturday night, they received a 911 call stating that a man had shot his son.
According to a probable cause statement, Jessica Chisholm phoned 911 to report that her brother had just been shot by her father. She told the dispatcher at the time of the call that her brother was still breathing.
The statement says that Jessica told the dispatcher her brother had tried to run Phillips over with a car before shots were fired.
The family members were gathered at what Jessica called “Berns Farm” when Jeff and his girlfriend allegedly began arguing. After Jeff supposedly headbutted the woman in the face, his mother intervened, reportedly telling Jeff he needed to leave and calm down.
The report continues that Chisholm retrieved his car keys to leave, and a physical altercation between mother and son ensued. Following this, Phillips attempted to break them up.
